Guys, here's an opportunity to chalk up your CIP hours as well as do something meaningful as a unit! In this CIP event, you will be involved in taking charge of the registration booth, ushering and also mass cleaning up with residents in Ci Yuan Green Park. Details are as follows:

Event: Clean-It Yourself Day
Venue: Ci Yuan Green Park (near Hougang Ave 9)
Date: 13 March 2011 (Sunday)
Time: 8.00 am - 11.45 am

2-way transport will be transported from the school to the venue. Meals will be provided as well.

The two part performance consists of the following sub-parts

(1c) FIBUA tactical movement and Hand-to-hand combat explanation (to audience)

“Hit it!”, a phrase that is familiar to all who share the bond. This bond is a special one. It is one that is earned through sweat, tireless effort, the conquering of a basic human fear and the pride of being Airborne. For the uninitiated, the “Hit it!” drill is a paratroopers' life-or-death drill which is executed in order to exit the aircraft properly and to ensure that his flight down to earth will be a smooth going one.

Personally, the acquisition of the SAF'S illustrious Airborne Silver wings has been a boyhood dream. Thus once I learnt of the opportunity to earn a coveted spot in the 197 BAC course, I lept on to it. At the pre-course NCC physical selection test, the first thing which struck and impressed me were the highly motivated and physically fit NCC cadet officers who had signed on for the course. These unique individuals were to be my constant companions and bosom friends over the three weeks as we toiled together with the SAF Commandos under the ever professional instruction of our Parachute Jump Instructors. Day by day, our instructors utilized precise instruction, picture-perfect demonstrations, repetition and the correction of our faults all worked to mechanistically hone our bodies and minds to be instinctive paratroopers. The moment drew near.

Like anyone who has punched out of a moving aircraft, we too wish that we could bring the thrill of the moment to you. We too wish that we could change your life forever with that indescribable moment. Thus we highly encourage all who dare to dream to dare to take on the challenge. But now imagine if you can, the Flying Fox tower of the NCC camp. Add 97 stories to it and imagine yourself perched at the edge of a 100 stories. Now imagine the tower moving at a speed of 130knots. The wind is blasting in your face and it consumes all your senses. Behind you, the next stick of paratroopers who are eagerly awaiting their turn cheer you on with adrenaline-pumped shouts of “Airborne!” Now punch out and earn your wings....

ANDSS Team Challenge Quest results are as follows: Our NCC Student Team came in Third (Beating 145 other teams) and our 1km Obstacle Run timing was 5mins. We also got Teacher Officer Champion with my 1km Obstacle Run timing of 3min53secs. All in all, very proud of ANDSS Team Challenge Quest 2009 who pushed hard through many grueling sessions and produced great results....GO ANDSS NCC!

With these series of posts, ANDSS NCC aims to expand the general military knowledge cum enrichment scope of our cadets. These series of posts will familiarize our cadets with information with regards to the training and operational activities of the Elite Fighting forces of the world. For the first installment of these series of posts, we shall take a look at the proud family of men who call themselves "US Air Assault" troopers. (The closest SAF equivalent would be the Guards.) This is an overseas course that our NCC RSM, 1WO Christopher Byran attended and graduated from.

On the 3rd of September,Anderson NCC attended a special preview of the SAF Open House.We were given specific objectives to complete,namely:
-Complete a worksheet on the various aspects of the 3G SAF
-present the compiled information in the form of a presentation during T4,W1
We had our very own tour guide,2ND SGT Syazwan from Ang Mo Kio Secondary School
We left school at 1330 hrs.The bus ride took about 45-60 mins.During the ride,our guide,Syazwan,briefed us on the main outline of the tour,which eventually took 2-3 hrs.We first visited Our world,a segment encased in a giant tent.Though there was air-conditioning,the sheer magnitude of the number of people cramped in there successfully eliminated any meager effectiveness of the air con.Also,it was quite hard for us to get a good look at the various apparel,devices and programs.However,there were certain stages where the crowd thinned and we were able to stay for longer than the average 1 min in a particular spot.These are some of the things we saw:
-VBS(Virtual Battle Simulator)
This basically is a simulated game which was designed for soldiers to train in simulated real time scenarios.The "main objective" is defined by "Headquarters".NS cadets are then supposed to work as a team to achieve the objective.For example,if the objective is to gain control of a bunker,the platoon/squad has to take out enemies,lob grenades into rooms to clear hostiles and such.Much like your average video game.

-Simulated march
This was a segment where cadets were given the opportunity to experience the average trek that every NS-man undertakes regularly.The treadmill is placed at a speed that matches the regular pace during these marches while the cadet is also made to carry the 10kg load on his bag,the SAR21 and all the standard equipment.

We then proceeded on to the second part:Action World.Here,we then we shown a 10-min live demonstration on the execution of Urban Operations.This live demonstration involved 2 helicopters,2 tanks and a medic carrier.Loads of pyrotechnics left the smell of gunpowder in the air.But it was interesting.

We then proceeded to Future World,where we saw interesting things like:
-VBS Competition
This was basically a contest across the various infantry sections to see who was the best.A massive LAN Gaming contest.
-Humanoids
these were basically robots designed to imitate human behavioral characteristics and replace humans on the field in terms of intelligence gathering.They can do all sorts of things.Like sway their hips.

Finally we ended up at the Viewing area,where vehicles ,land and sea,were put on display,all doors open for visitors to explore and relive the days of pilots,of tank officers in their impermeable shells,navigating behemoths,hulking mountains of Steel and Iron.

After that,we departed for Anderson,arriving at 1815 hrs.

On the 12th of August,the specialists attended the trainfire package for the latest addition to the SAF's arment:the SAR21.the SAR 21 is basically shorter and heavier as compared to the more traditional M16,but is fitted with more advanced gadgets for better shooting.Here are the statistics on the SAR21:

Marksmanship Fundamentals

Some tips on improving you marksmanship. Shooting is always learning, and every shot you fire should be a learning experience. Remember the marksmanship fundamentals that the CLT at your Trainfire Program taught you ?

Basically, in prone position, an important thing to remember is to focus on your target. In this case, the Canadian Bull or Figure 12. Always remember to place all your concentration on the target. Never let the target out of your sight.

Place the butt of the M16 rifle FIRMLY into the hollow of your shoulder or suffer the consequences of a dislocated shoulder. Though the computerized rifles produce only a small portion of the actual recoil, it is enough to distinguish between a marksman and a failure.

Always use your master eye to aim. Like the Officer said during the briefing, close one eye and find your master eye ( the one which you can see the clearest ) .

Take a deep breath in. The M16 Rifle will dip. Let your breath out, watching the front sight rise until it barely touches the bottom of the Canadian Bull - now hold your breath. You have just used a natural act - breathing - to establish your correct position to hit the target.

Whilst concentrating on the target, keeping the target in sight , squeeze the trigger to fire a shot.
If the elevation at which you hold your rifle is accurate and you manage to align your sights, you should have a high chance to hit the target.

Keep these in mind and you will be sure to do well in your following IMT.

Part A IMT

Today, the Part A cadets went for their IMT (Individual Marksmanship Trainer) Program. The cadets were tested based on their groupings ie. the displacement between shots fired. In the end, Anderson Secondary NCC Land produced 1 Marksman and 1 Cadet who Passed. To all else who failed, do not be discouraged. This is only your first IMT program. Sharpen your marksmanship fundamentals and all of you will be sure to do well.
